Sedation Dentistry

If you have a strong gag reflex, dislike dental visits, or need extensive dental work, consider sedation dentistry to make your experience pleasant. Dr. Lowe has completed a special course on sedation dentistry through the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS).

Choose from nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) or oral conscious sedation (a sedative in pill form).

Nitrous oxide is administered through a facemask. You'll inhale the odorless gas and begin to feel relaxed. You won't notice pain or anxiety, so you'll enjoy a comfortable experience. When we turn off the nitrous oxide, you'll almost immediately bounce back to normal. With laughing gas, you can return to work and play right after your dental visit.

For oral conscious sedation, Dr. Lowe administers nitrous oxide gas with an anti-anxiety medication to induce a state of deep relaxation. You will take a pill at night and another an hour before your appointment. During treatment, you may drift off to sleep, but you will be able to respond to verbal commands. When you wake, you will probably remember very little about the dental procedure. The effects can linger, so be sure to schedule a ride home with a friend or relative.
